xp misidentifies device

I bought a usb-uirt . Xp identifies it as a usb <.>serial and I can not install the drivers. I already have another usb-uirt on this machine and it is identified as a usb-uirt. I tried the new one on five other computers and it is identified on all of them as usb usb <.>serial Is this just a defective device? Is there any way to fix this. Are there any registry entries I can change, or any way to get xp to see this as a usb-uirt
