Problem with specific channels

Postby job12 » Thu Jan 27, 2005 6:04 am

Hi. I am new to using the UIRT. I am using the UIRT with Beyond TV 3.5 and a Samsung SIR-S300W Direct TV reciever. I have tried selecting both predefined key setups as well as using the key learning functions. Basically what happens is when the UIRT tries to change to channel 11, the DDS recieves one 0. For 22 and 88, it shows nothing. 33,44,55,66,77, 99 all work correctly. It also does not send the enter key correctly. I played with the Girder program and have all of the IR codes functioning correctly, but I'm not sure if there is a way to manually assign them to the UIRT or the Beyond TV software. I am not using an external remote. Any suggestions or advise? Thanks

job12,

It sounds as if some of the 'learns' did not work correctly. This can sometimes occur if the remote is not positioned well, has weak batteries, or the button is pressed before the app is 'ready' to learn the particular button.

Please try learning these again with BTV. Otherwise, you can manually enter these codes into BTV one of two ways:

1. Learn the codes with the 'lrnHelper' program (which you can request from support@usbuirt.com ) and then manually edit and paste them into your BTV .IR file.

2. Run the 'lrnHelper' program and learn each button's code and copy them into notepad or something, then leave Lrnhelper running and go into BTV's learn screens again. This time when BTV asks you to press, 0, for example, *instead* of aiming your remote and sending IR, *instead* pates the approriate code into LrnHelper and press the 'Inject' button. This will feed the code into BTV (BTV will think you used your remote).

Inconsistent problems with specific channels

Postby CrunchyFrog » Thu Jun 30, 2005 3:59 am

Jon,

I too am using BeyondTV and am having trouble training my USB-UIRT device to specific channels.

First, I downloaded and installed the latest driver and firmware via SnapStream's Knowledge Base.

When I originally trained the device, it would only transmit the following digits: 0, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9. I tweaked the settings 100 different ways, and reset the channel keys -- without success.

At the suggestion of someone on SnapStream's User Forum, I deleted the *.rmt file that I created (for my unlisted cable box) and ran the setup wizard again. This time the UIRT device transmitted these digits: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 9. Again, I tweaked the transmission settings many times, and reset/retrained the buttons likewise -- without success

After reading your email below, I diligently positioned my remote control, inserted brand new batteries, and waited several seconds between each channel "training" -- still without success.

Should I just give up and request the IrnHelper program from you?

(also... the BTV wizard insists that I "train" the UIRT with my remote's "enter" button after the numerical digits -- even though I unchecked the that option in the wizard's previous step. However, my remote doesn't have an "Enter" button. What do you suggest I do at that point? Is this related to my problem above?)

Thanks,

- Matt

As far as the 'Enter' key, you could probably just use any other key.

I am a bit disappointed with BTV's wizard -- it seems to be problematic with many.

I would suggest learning the codes with lrnHelper -- even though this is the round-about way -- for a few reasons:

1. It allows you to learn a code and transmit it to verify you got it right.
2. It gives you feedback while learning
3. Perhaps while learning with lrnHelper you might stumble on what might be causing the learn issues in BTV.

I am having a similar problem, however mine only appeared AFTER upgrading from SageTV 2.2.8 to 3.0.5.

I am using the Snapstream remote to send commands to the HTPC, then a USBIRT to control a DirecTV box. Worked flawlessly on 2.2.8.

Upgraded to 3.0.5 and the only thing that stopped working was the USBIRT. Now, if I choose channel 4 in Sage the UIRT sends 004 properly and changes the channel. If I choose channel 7, 11, 5 or 9, the UIRT sends crazy stuff to the DTV box. 7 becomes 7883991 and 9 is 9008331, etc...

I am thinking this is a Sage thing, but wanted to first confirm this suspicion here. Is there any chance this is a UIRT problem?

Thanks!

Wow, that is crazy.

When you get those channels with lots of digits (like 9008331) do you see the LED on the USB-UIRT blink for all of those digits?

Duh, sorry. I didn't think to check the USBIRT itself, I just took note of the LED on the DirecTV box. Each time a command is sent from the USBIRT to the DTV box the LED on that box (DTV) flashes once. So a channel change has always consisted of 3 LED flashes on the DTV box. Same thing here, 3 flashes occur, but on the TV screen I see the DirecTV guide cycle through all those digits.

I have Sage set to only use 3-digit channels.

I submitted a bug report to Sage and reinstalled the older version back over top of the new one. All channel changing functions went back to normal immediately.

I am still thinking it's a Sage problem. What do you think?
