Wake from Standby Misses Monitor

Just purchased my unit, a wonderful piece of technology. Thanks very much.

My problem revolves around Resuming after a Standby. With my Gyration USB mouse and keyboard the PC goes to standby as it should, and upon a key press or mouse click the monitor instantly pops up, the front lights blink, and the drives spin--full resume.

Attempting the same with the USB-UIRT will put the PC in standby fine. But upon resume, AND IT CERTAINLY DOES RESUME, the front lights blink and the drives spin but the monitor never comes up. It takes a click from the keyboard or mouse afterwards to bring the picture back.

I even have tried sending a SPACE through my remote and girder after I know the PC is back on and this won't bring the monitor up. It must be keyboard or mouse. It's as if there's something about how the USB-UIRT resumes that misses turning the monitor back on.

I have tried "restart drivers on resume" option to no effect. Have not tried any registry hacks concerning s1 or s3 since standby/resume works with Gyration.

Windows XP SP2, Girder 3.3.7, USB-UIRT drivers 1.3

If it matters, this is my HTPC. My monitor is a 32" tv connected through S-video on an Nvida card tv out.

I was wondering if you had tackled this problem in the meantime as i was considering buying a USB-UIRT just for its wake from USB capabilities.

Unfortunately, this 'problem' has nothing to do with the USB-UIRT, but rather is a function of the combination of the PC's BIOS and Microsoft's power management. This is an issue which affects some PC's which adhere to an old Microsoft recommendation -- if the PC is woke from standby from a modem, lan, or other 'non-user' peripheral (i.e., not mouse or keyboard), the OS will assume that there is no person physically sitting at the PC, and therefore to conserve energy, the PC's monitor output is to remain OFF unless some user activity is detected.

This strategy was primarily designed for laptop computers and remote IT management.

Thanks for the explanation. I own a Logitech Harmony Remote. Could i just send an IR code of a known IR keyboard to the USB-UIRT to overcome this problem?

Since the USB-UIRT does not install itself as a Windows keyboard device, this won't work. However, having a program like Girder send a keypress to the Windows desktop or something might work...

Hi John,

Do you have a link or something that describes the problem in more detail?
I'm having a similar issue with my new setup, and I'm willing to buy a
new motherboard to solve it. I don't want to experience the same
problem a second time, so I'd like to be able to ask an intelligent question
of the motherboard vendors.

Are you going into S1 or S3?

Does the screen return after you move mouse or hit a key?

What happens if you do not resume w/USB-UIRT but instead schedule a wake-up in Windows Task Scheduler?

Thanks for the quick response. Actually, it looks like my trouble is worse
than I thought. I'm using S3, and simply trying to wake using the power
button. My PC seems to wake up (fans spin, VFD turns on), but the
monitor doesn't wake up, and I can't VNC to the machine. I think my
motherboard doesn't handle S3 very well. I'll take it up with Gigabyte,
probably switch motherboards if they can't help me (hence the new
thread I started).
