How USB-UIRT Works

Postby 0tisFrump » Wed Sep 14, 2005 9:19 pm

Jon,

I sent an email earlier from my cell but the reply was cut off. I am troubleshooting my setup which uses the USB-UIRT, Homeseer and a Xantech connecting block with emitters. As far as I can tell from your answer, when I point a remote at the USB-UIRT, it receives the signal as shown by the talkback LED, then sends that signal to Homeseer; it does not re-transmit it out the 1/8" plug. The only way to have the USB-UIRT transmit a command out through the 1/8" plug is for Homeseer to issuer it. If this isn't correct, please respond, otherwise I'll assume this is how it works.

Thanks for your help,
Alan

Otis,

That is correct. The rear jack is similar to the built-in emitter -- it emits only when the PC sends an IR code to be emitted. It does not act as an IR pass-through.

Best Regards,

Jon,

Well, I'm making progress - I can receive signals from a remote through a Xantech receiver, into a connecting then out through an emitter stuck to the front of the IR IN window on the USB-UIRT. I have a Homeseer event that will send out a command when it receives the original signal. The IR blaster on the front of the USB-UIRT flashes when Homeseer sends out its signal and that's where I run into another problem. I have an additional emitter plugged into the 1/8" port on the USB-UIRT and it doesn't flash when Homeseer sends its signal. I've tried different brands of emitters- Russound and Xantech, but none will flash when plugged in. Is there a way to test that port to see if it's working or can I assume that it's broken since the emitters won't flash?

0tisfrump,

First of all, if you're using HomeSeer 2 take note that the 'Zone' needs to be set to '1' in HS for all of the outputs to work.

Some thoughts:

1. Many of those emitters are not visible, so you won't see them flash -- also they must be placed right over the IR receiver on the unit being controlled because they are low power.

2. If they are not visible emitters you can test the 1/8" jack by using a set of headphones and listening for some chirping noises.

If these are emitters with feedback leds on them , there maybe be not enough drive voltage ???? jsut a thought

Jon,

I found some talkback emitters to help me troubleshoot the system. I made new cables for it all and now it works. Thanks for all your help.
