Importing pronto codes

Postby Darren » Mon Sep 08, 2003 8:31 pm

I am trying to use some pronto codes to control a piece of equipment (red-eye) but get an error, I am wondering if I am doing this correctly.

I hit learn then import then paste “6000 0073 0001 0000 0028 0000” in to the code box.

I get some error about the first hex should be 0.

I am not sure if I am doing this correctly. The info I have (and pronto file) say the code is "RC6"
If I include this in the string it gives the same error.

I have checked the USB-UIRT is working just fine with captured codes.

I are from the web site of the manufacturer of the equipment here http://www.redremote.co.uk/downloads.html

It will teach it’s codes but seems to do so in short bursts that prevent the usb-uirt getting a full code.

I am using Firmware V5.4 Plugin V2.5.9

Do I need to change the code in some way to get it to work?

Some background:
I am intending to use USB-UIRT to change channels on my PACE cable box the box (provided by NTL U.K.) uses IRDA for its remote and so can’t be controlled directly by USB-UIRT.

I have found a product (red-eye) that will translate from standard infrared to irda.
I am using snapstream and will change channels through girder.

Darren,

Unfortunately the codes you're trying are in Pronto RC6 format, which is not currently understood by the plugin. The Plugin 'Import' feature is looking for Pronto 'RAW' (also known as 'Learned') format codes. These codes always begin with '0000'. I suggest going to the following web-page:

http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/fi ... blebox&fc=

And download a .CCF file which matches your unit. You can then use ProntoEdit (also available on the RemoteCentral site) to extract the learned-format codes for import into Girder.

The problem with the Girder plugin learning single-burst codes is a known issue and is being worked on.

Hope this helps,

Importing pronto codes

Postby Darren » Tue Sep 09, 2003 9:14 pm

Hi, Thanks John for the link I had not seen the large quantity of pronto files for the red-eye remote. However they all use the RC6 code and not a learned code.

There is a Pronto Neo file on the red-eye site http://www.redremote.co.uk/downloads.html that says it contains learned codes but I can’t figure out how to get the RAW code out of the NEOedit program.

Seeing that pasting a code into the girder plugin looks unlikely to bear fruit is it possible to get the USB-UIRT to learn a short code from the red-eye? In teach mode it seems to transmit its code in short bursts that prevent the plugin learning the code. The USB-UIRT is receiving the signal but the progress bar only goes to about 30% of the way.

Hope you can help. I Can’t wait to get my USB-UIRT changing channels on my NTL cable box to allow Snapstream PVR to record.

Darren,

If you can wait a bit I plan on putting out some beta code in a few days to allow remotes that only burst to be learned.

Darren,

Thanks for reminding me -- I'm busy polishing up a new release and want this feature to get in there!

Please email me at uirtsupport@earthlink.net and we'll work on this via email.

Thanks,

Jon,

Jon, I'm in the same boat as Daniel (HK AVR 525). Right now this is the only component that is not working fully through USB-UIRT & girder, so I have to keep my cabinet door open that contains my receiver and use it's remote to control it -- I really would like to get everything down to 1 remote and be able to close that door.

I have a RS learning remote that is multi-burst so I tried to teach it commands from my HK single-burst remote then in turn teach this to girder, but apparently if it is taught a single-burst it outputs a single burst.

I went to remote central and found discreet codes for the basics that I need to control. Here is one for Video3:

Code: Select all
0000 006f 0020 0000 0041 01bd 0015 0015 000f 001b 000c 001e 000a 0020 0008 0022 0008 0022 0007 0023 0006 004f 000d 001d 0008 0022 0006 0024 0004 0026 0003 0052 000a 004b 000c 0049 000c 001e 0006 0024 0003 0052 0008 004d 0009 004c 0009 0021 0003 0028 0001 1865 0006 004f 0007 004e 0007 0023 0001 19f0 0004 0051 0005 0703 0009 0feb 0007 01bd

Is there a way to get this into girder?

Here is the code using the "test IR" function and pressing the Video3 button 6 times:

Code: Select all

Murray,

Since you already have access to the discrete code you're 90% there.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Create a new command in Girder
2. Go into USB-UIRT learn dialog and press the 'Learn' button.
3. *instead* of learning from your remote, press the 'Import' button and the import screen will come up.
4. CHECK the box which says 'Import as Raw...', and then copy and PASTE the discrete code into the box.
5. Press OK

There you have it...

Jon,

Thanks for the quick reply. I followed your instructions and I was able to import and convert the code. The bad news is that this discreet code must not work on my model number because I got no action when I clicked "test IR" after I had loaded and saved the commands.

Any other suggestions?

thanks,

Murray

Murray,

Yep, it appears the discrete code is not the same as the code from your remote.

Could you email me at support@usbuirt.com and I have some newer code for you to try...

Any progress on learning short bursts?

I am starting playing wiht trying to get X10 going. Another post on that topic is getting me going on trying to figure out how to import CCF codes, which of course now requires installing another program.
Thanks
