After some random time of using USB-UIRT with girder (from 1 minutos, to a couple of hours), USB-UIRT stop responding, and in girder status bar apears: "TmOut wainting for UIR thread"... Then I have to close girder, disconnect the device and start girder again...

If I only restart girder and dont disconnect and reconnect the device, my
Window XP crash with a Blue screen... Its always like this...

Any one can help me?

BeRnA,

Has this always been happening with your unit, or is this something new?

Have you recently changed PC's (or motherboards)?

How long of a USB cable is the USB-UIRT on (any extensions)?

I have changed my motherboard recently (it is a ney pc), in the old computer the usbuirt work fine, but in this new pc, dont...

It has the standart 2 meters cable you put on...

OK,

First thing to try is making sure the plug connection is seated well and feels like it is snug with good contact friction. You may also want to try the other USB port(s) on your PC.

Beyond that, options include trying it with a externally-powered USB hub, and having me send you a possible replacement unit to try...

I have re-programated the flash rom with the firmware, and aparently in the last 40 hours it had never crashed...
It could be something with a malfuntion firmware?

I'm having a similar problem. I get the same time out notice, but it is in the BTV training wizard. The wizard just eventually locks up and crashes (no error message or anything, it just craps out and is gone). It did leave some WIZARD*.RPT files in the BTV directory that had those error messages in them.

I JUST got this USB-UIRT two days ago. It should have the newest firmware, right? How can I check?

If you just received your unit, the firmware will be current (hasn't changed in months).

Anyway, I believe the problem you're seeing is something with BTV. I have had other reports of issues with the BTV setup wizard crashing. It is being looked into. In the meantime, you might want to see if BTV has a preset setup for your tuner.

You can also email me at support and I can send you a simple test app which you can use to try out the functionality of your unit.

Unfortunately, BTV doesn't support my Samsung SIR-TS160 DirecTV HDTV tuner with presets. I wonder if there is any .ini file for BTV that I could raw code the settings into if I could capture them from some other program (girder or something)?

I also sent you an email. I'll try to dig up the error log files from the BTV wizard when I get home.

Sometimes restarting Girder works, sometimes it results in an immediate reboot. There's another thread on this (or something similar):

Bryan,

Since you have two units, after you try running it w/out the external emitter can you try switching the two units to see if it follows the switch?

I think I've found out what causes the problem though!

It appears to be the external emitter. I had added a dual emitter (a Y-cable with emitters on two ends) and that was when it started acting up. Is it possible that the increased current drain or something causes it to fail?

After I removed the dual emitter it seems to be working okay so far (touch wood). Another poster with the same problem also mentioned using an emitter.

My other unit also has an emitter, but maybe different emitters have different power drain.

I have the same type of "time out" issue where after x amount of time, my usb-uirt stops responding... a reboot of the pc fixes it.
I also have an external emitter with 2 ends(/leads)

i'm curious how have this plugged in will cause it to stop working? it only happens to me at night after i've shut the tv off.. when i get up in the morning usb-uirt blinks red.. but no worky!!!

i've disabled every power mgmt. setting in the bios and windows..
but so far i've had no luck. the only thing i have not tried is removing the external emitters.. but then i cant control my devices..

jon, can you explain maybe how this would be a problem and if it's something that could be fixed with a bios update??????

There are a couple of 'theories' on what might be happening and I have been discussing this with the USB chip manufacturer. The 'common' theme for those that see this issue *seems* to be the external emitters (I say *seem* because this is not verified).

If your equipment is close enought to your USB-UIRT you can try disconnecting the external emitters to see if you can 'get by' for a few days to test this theory on your setup. I am not suggesting you ditch the emitters, though -- I'm still looking for possible reasons.

The theory around the emitters points to some sort of interference picked up by the external emitter leads which cause the USB chip on the USB-UIRT to 'hang'. This results in no more communication between the PC and the USB-UIRT.

There are also efforts by the USB chip mfgr. to provide some test code to me to see if this situation can be 'escaped' via software.

Can you give me an idea also of how 'consistent' this happens in your setup (how often, etc.)?
