Aiwa receiver?

I have an old Aiwa bookshelf system which I am using as my receiver. I was trying to send IR commands to it with no success. I thought I was doing wrong, until I tried sending IR commands to a different device and it worked with no problems.
I've tried Learning the IR code, but it appears that when you hold down the button on the Aiwa remote, the code which is found is the "repeating" code (or something like that).
I've confirmed that if I use my real remote and hold Volume Up away from the unit and while holding the button, point it toward the unit, nothing happens. (I didn't know this until now.) Similarly, if I initially press Volume Up on my remote and then use Girder/USB-UIRT to send the signal it found (ie, repeating signal), it does then continue to increase the volume.
So the difficulty seems to be finding the initial code. Looking at the following website (http://ir.premisesystems.com/search.asp ... A&l=AVDV75), it seems that Aiwa codes are approximately a series of 96 numbers.
However, even after using debug to capture a series of Volume Up commands, I can't seem to find the appropriate string of numbers. Even when I tried to include multiple lines, it does not seem to work. (I don't know what the limit is for the IR code to transmit, but I've pasted quite long strings in there.)
(I have noticed that sometimes when I press Apply, it adds F's toward the beginning of my string... For example,
1A69 580F 155 2C64 0545 015 0597 0580 016 10B6 0545 015 10B1 0583 016 107F 0580 016 0592 0581 016 107D 0583 016 10B3 0543 015 059C 0580 016 0597 057C 016 059C 0543 015 059B 0583 016 0592 057E 016 059B 0545 015 10B6 057E 016 059E 0540 015 059A 0585 016 0594 057C 016 1082 0580 016 0595 057C 016 059E 0543 015 10B6 057C 016 1082 0580 016 10B4 0542 015 10B6 057E 016 107F 0580 016 10B4 0543 015 10B6 057E 016 059B 0548 015 10B3 0581 016 107B 0580 016 0595 0583 016 0599 0545 015 10B2 0583 016 059C 0543 015 0599 0580 016 10B6 0543 015 059C 057E 016 0597 057E 016 107D 0580 016 10B6 0545 015 0599 0582 016 10B1 0545 015 E28A 5805 155 2C61 0548 015 0000 0000 0000

However, I've added the same code at the end of the string and it does not add the F's on the second half of the string, so I would have expected that it should work... I've made sure that I've matched frequency as well as trying some others... Tried repeating up to 30-40 times... I don't seem to get anything to work... I've tried using new batteries, etc. (But I've already confirmed it works on other devices.) Help???
Some questions:
1. Do the FFFF in the debug output represent a logical end of the sequence? And therefore would never really need to be transmitted?
2. To use the Test button, I don't need to first click Apply if I have made changes in the parameters, right?
3. Is there a tool which can just capture a single IR signal (vs debug which forces me to do a whole bunch before it shows me the output).
4. Can non-infrared devices cause interference to the signal? (Like wireless?)
Thanks,
Jim
