USB-UIRT times out when using Belkin extension cable...

I tried attaching my USB-UIRT to my computer via a Belkin extension cable and it worked fine. However, the device somehow times-out after a certain amount of time and Girder loses contact with it. This doesn't happen when I plug the USB-UIRT directly into my computer. Any ideas? Thanks.

This may be a problem if the USB voltage from the PC is a bit low. Also, you may want to take a close look at how the cable is routed (i.e., avoid routing the cable near power cords, around strong magnetic fields from TV's and Monitors, etc.)

Hope this helps!

Thanks Jon. Can you make USB-UIRT units with longer black USB cables?

Did you have any luck rerouting the cable, etc.?

I *can* make units with 10' cables. However, they take longer since I have to special order the cable, etc.

Ah... 10m is still too short for me. Is a long external emitter the way to go then? Rerouting the cable had no effect. =( Thanks.

Your two best options are:

1: If you don't need the receiver far away from the PC but only the emitter, an external emitter (stick-on type) can be found for <$10.

2: You can buy a cheap USB powered hub to extend further.
