usbuirt + beyondTV = CRASH (why?)

im using it with beyond tv to control my dish network box. it seems to work fine with live tv. the problem is when recording shows in the background while im away. it works fine for a few shows then it locks up. it just sits there and blinks. it also brings beyond tv to a crashing halt. any ideas?

thanks,
Jason

I use my USB UIRT with BeyondTV (two setups) and they both work fine.

When I had an external emitter there were times that USBUIRT will stop responding after a few hours, so you might want to check that.

What do you mean by 'sits there and blinks'? Is the USB-UIRT LED blinking and if so can you describe it?

the red led on the front blinks continuously. Their dosent seem to be any pattern, just more of a continous blinking

I've seen this once before with a bad 'digit' in the IRTuner file. I am wondering if it has to do with tuning your cable/sat box to a particular channel. Can you test transmit all of the digits 0 thru 9 to your Sat box?

i tuned to different channels making sure to test every digit 0 through 9 and had no problems.

Hi Gorski,

Have you tried posting on the SnapStream forum? Someone there should be able to help. A lot of users there use the USB-UIRT.

I have the same problem

Gorski, you and I have the same exact issue. Mostly my usb-uirt works fine and I can tune every channel on my dish network box just fine. However, ever so often the usb-uirt seems to go crazy, start blinking continuously and BeyondTV hangs. I don't know if its BeyondTV causing the issue or the usb-uirt doing something weird but it takes a reboot to fix it.

What dish network box are you using out of curiosity? I have a 7100 WebTV-capable dish box and had to use Jon's learner app and cutting and pasting of codes to create my .tvr tuner file since learning inside BeyondTV caused it to hang. I still own Jon some debugging info. (I'm getting to it in next few days). This made me suspect that somehow BeyondTV does not like the remote codes for this model and possibly something related is what is causing this to now hang like this, don't know.

russ,

Something that might be helpful,

The next time this happens, run a utility called 'DebugView' (available from www.sysinternals.com), choose 'Capture->Win32' from the DebugView menu, and watch the DebugView window to see if some debug messages are repeatedly showing up (the USB-UIRT API driver spits out some messages when transmitting, etc.).

Also, when you say 'continuous blinking', is the LED on the USb-UIRT steady ON or does it blink in a pattern (like its repeatedly sending out digits, etc.)

uirt blinking

Actually, its continuously sending out digits. I have not noticed whether its a set pattern or just the last attempted channel change or what but you can see the digits continuosly changing by watching the TV screen.

I'll download that app and get it ready to run for the next time this happens. Meanwhile, I'll try training again and send you more details on the problems that has.

Oooh, knowing whether it is continuously sending the 'same' digit or a full channel sequence would be *really* interesting!

I did notice that it was continuously entering (seemed to be at least watching the TV screen) "000". It just happened again so I will send the log to you by email.

I have recently reformatted and upgraded to beyondtv 3.5 and am still having the same issues. As far as the blinking goes it dosent seem to actually be sending out any ir commands as the channel dosent change on the sattlite box. It just blinks at a continous rate. Could it be a defective unit? I will run the debug program you specified tonight and post the results

Ahh, very interesting!

I opened beyondtv and fired up live mode. It hung and the USB-uirt started blinking. So, i fired up debug view and here's what i saw:

[616] RESUME
[616] Dispatch: TransmitIR
[616] PAUSE
[616] RESUME
[616] Dispatch: TransmitIR
[616] PAUSE
[616] RESUME

[616] Dispatch: TransmitIR
[616] PAUSE
[616] RESUME
[616] Dispatch: TransmitIR
[616] PAUSE
[616] RESUME

over and over again. 616 is the beyondtv recording engine. Im guessing this would be a problem in snapsteams software? let me know what you think

well it does look like its a problem with snapstream. I'm now using girder to fire off the usb uirt and I am having no problems what so ever. Thanks for all your help.
