I own a Philips Pronto and I will buy the usb-uirt device if I find a positive answer to the following question.
I haven’t a IR keyboard. If I download the IR airboard keyboard .ccf file in my Pronto, will I be able to use my PC (through the Usb-uirt and the Pronto) even if I don’t buy the IR keybosrd?

Yhanks for your time!

Deborah

deborah,

Unfortunately, what you're trying to do cannot be accomplished with the USB-UIRT. Keyboards generate complex IR events at different times during the keystroke (when the key is pressed, while it is held, when it is released, etc., as well as additional information to convey multiple keys being held, etc.

The USB-UIRT will not try to interpret all of these events and therefore special software would have to be written on the host PC to translate all of these back into real keystrokes.

Jrhees,

thanks for your reply! What about the combination of:
Pronto + Usb-uirt + Girder ?
Do I still need the keyboard???

Bye! Deborah!

You can certainly navigate your PC via a USB-UIRT with a Pronto, but you will not get the equivalent of a keyboard (you will have to use standard IR codes).
