suddenly stopped

Coming back from holidays, foud my usb-uirt "stalled"...
unplugged from the usb hub, plugged again, win seemd to find it, driver loaded ok, nevertheless, the girder pluggin didn't work. Also the red led was always on?!
Tried in a different usb port, driver ok, girder nok, lrnhelper.exe gave also an error message...
just to make sure, i plugged it into my laptop, same behaviour!
treid to flash it with the last firmware - it worked!
But, still, driver ok, lrnhelper cannot connect
any clue?
