USB-UIRT Forum

I was wondering if anyone had experience with using USB-UIRT in conjunction with a Niles AV distribution system. I have built an audio server using Windows XP-Pro with Media Center v.9 as the interface. The USB-UIRT was simply plugged in and the Media Center plug-in downloaded, enabling the IR commands to be taught to the PC/UIRT to enable IR control of Media Center. ( I used a Sony CD remote to generate the commands). This all works fine if using the Sony remote directly in front of the PC.
The problem I am having is after teaching the commands to the Niles system and trying to use their required R-8 remotes in a remote zone, the PC/UIRT seems to receive 2 or 3 of the same IR command, making it difficult to navigate the Media Center interface. For example, if next track command is sent, the device will skip 2 or 3 tracks ahead.
I get the sense that the Niles buttons are a little "sticky", and that the commands are being blasted in a string, and that the UIRT is so agile that it is picking up a string of commands. Can the UIRT be set to respond more slowly, so as to see only a single command each time a button is pushed on the R-8?

The best way to handle this is with an 'Anti-repeat' or 'Debounce' in the USB-UIRT plugin for the app you're using. I am not familiar with the Media Center plugin, but if it does not have a debounce feature you should probably request it from them (the developers). The basic idea is for the plugin to allow a time setting for debounce. Then, any of the same IR code received before the time has elapsed are simply ignored.

I will get on the Media Center forums and see if I can figure out how to set the "debounce/anti-repeat" using their prefab plug-in. If not, I suppose I can get energetic and do my own thing with Girder, but I have been too lazy to tackle it. BTW, I love your UIRT. It has helped me finally realize my goal of an audiophile quality audio server with a GUI interface I can control from multiple zones around the house. Just a little more fine tuning and Im there.

In the USBUIRT Girder Plugin 2.6.93, is-it "Pass stop codes as repeated events" which must be selected if I want that my Volume UP command increase Volume during all the time I pressed the remote button ?
(Actually I must press VOL UP button several times)

Otherwise, I did not find anywhere en explanation about the setup of the USBUIRT Girder plugin

This setting depends on your remote. Some remotes send out the actual IR command only once followed by a 'repeat/Stop' command the rest of the time the button is held. Turning on the 'Pass Stop codes as repeated events' will cause these repeat/stop codes to continue to generate Girder events with the same 12-digit code that was initially generated when the button was first pressed. You can experiment with this setting and watch the status bar in Girder (where the Girder 'LED' is) to see what effect it has when you press your VOL buttons.

YES ! That's it !!

In the USBUIRT plugin, when activating "Pass stop codes as repeated codes", the Volume UP and Down can increase/decrease the volume without stop, when getting the button pressed a long time

BUT, now , for ALL the other USBUIRT commands, I had to introduce in the Event girder setup, an "Anti repeat wait time = 500" !
Without this, I had multiple commands if I press a button only 1 second!
ex : STOP STOP STOP, ESC ESC, UP UP UP UP and so on..

All is OK

For info, for these tests, I used the ACCENT IR-100 remote which comes with the Accent-Arisetec-Kanam HT-100 case
