Digital Cable, A/V Switch Box, S-Video -- Poor Pic Quality

I own a usbuirt and the other i finally got it to work after i downloaded Beyond TV.
So i decided i wanted to improve the picture quality so i went out and bought an extra S-Video cable. I needed a splitter for S-Video so i bought a A/V Switch Box.
I think i hooked it up correctly...I put the output from the switch box (s-Video) directly to my TV. The audio outs went to my stereo. I get perfect sound.
I moved the input cables for my computer to the switch box and it works except now the Video picture is really bad quality, lots of static.
Any idea what might cause this? The A/V switch box also has Coax In/Out, so i hooked my cable box up to it too and then hooked the out to the TV in.
Not sure why the picture is bad.
I tested my PS2 and i'm getting a great picture through S-Video now.
