Why won't the USB-UIRT control my Sony KDS70XBR2!!??

WinXP pro.
The USB-UIRT controls my Yamaha receiver perfectly, the Lutron dimmers perfectly, an X-10 IR transceiver perfectly....but not the Sony HDTV...
what's up with that?
i have tried ir codes from remotecentral.com
i have tried codes captured from the HDTV remote
i have tried codes captured from a Sony AX4000 integrated remote commander
i can get the tv to occasionally toggle power on/off if i send 5-20 individual transmissions.
i increased the repeat count to 5,6,8,and 10...without luck.
it's terrible. everything else works PERFECTLY..the Sony essentially doesn't work.
any way to fix this situation?
help a middle age guy fulfill his home theater dreams before he dies....
