USB-UIRT on linux mipsel, works? Continuous sending works?

Hey,
I have another IR usb hardware which is not working as I would like to on my box. I have googled around and I'm considering of buying USB-UIRT, it looks like it would be great...
I would be running it on a mips(el) debian (squeeze) box. I have understood that "all" I need, is to load kernel module "ftd_sio" and compile lirc with USB-UIRT support. Kernel is 2.6.30.8 on this box. Is this right, does it work with this box+distro+architecture combination like this?
Does irsend directives send_start and send_stop work with USB-UIRT? Thinking of setting volume...
Thanks for replies!
