DirecTV D-200 Transmit Problems

Postby jhendry » Tue Jul 19, 2005 2:02 pm

I am using the USB-UIRT with linux and lirc 0.7pre7 patched to support USB-UIRT. I am trying to control a DirecTV D-200 box.

What works:
Capturing the remote keys seems to work. I capture each button. Using irw I can receive all buttons.

What's broken:
Transmitting the codes to the D-200. This is using the same codes that the USB-UIRT recognizes from the remote. The D-200 has a green light that shows when it is receiving a IR signal. Mucking around with carrier frequencies, some cause the green light to blink, so don't. The USB-UIRT's red light always blinks, so it is transmitting something.

My random theory:
The remote is transmitting at 56kHz. The different signals are unique when viewed with the 34-40kHz LED (I do not have the 56kHz LED), so receiving the remote's signal works. Just a random theory.

I know linux is not officially supported, but I do not have any software on windows to test this. If free software exists to capture and transmit signals on windows I would be happy to use it to debug this problem.

Or...if someone has a lircd.conf for the D-200 (or possibly the D-100) that works for transmitting I would love to get that. My e-mail is hendryjh -> yahoo.com.

I would love to get this problem resolved so I can record more than one channel when I am away from home :)

jhendry,

First, let's get you a test app (Windows based) to verify your setup is okay. Then we'll go from there... please contact support@usbuirt.com

The lrnhelper on windows managed to capture the codes correctly. I took the pronto codes from that and converted them into a lircd.conf in order to control my DirecTV D10-200. The only remaining "problem" is that is irsend is used to send consecutive codes the receiver cannot understand them. I a just going to write a script that "sleeps" between every code and everything will work.

I have posted the lircd.conf file at:

Just noticed last night that the given lircd.conf file is only good for transmit. If you want to receive the codes with LIRC, then you will need to use irrecord to capture what LIRC thinks the codes are.

Basically LIRC only seems to get the initial code from the USB-UIRT, not the repeating pattern. Hopefully the official USB-UIRT support for linux will fix this when it is available.

This must be a Lirc issue with your particular remote (or possibly the implementation of USB-UIRT patch for Lirc). Since Lirc gets raw IR timing the USB-UIRT doesn't do much in this scenario.

Same problem with D10 using Windows XP

Postby imregh » Fri Aug 12, 2005 12:42 pm

I have the same problem that is described here, namely that I've trained the USB UIRT using BeyondTV but the transmissions seem to have no effect at all even though it's aimed at the box, the red light flashes, etc. Perhaps the same fix would work?? What can I do for Windows XP????
