USB device conflict - linux

Postby mstrimel » Sun Sep 04, 2005 7:44 pm

I want to use the USB-UIRT with linux. Whenever I plug in the USB-UIRT, my wireless USB interface device stops working. The device is a Microsoft MN510 WLAN receiver that uses a kernel module called prism2_usb.

Anyone have ideas how to troubleshoot this?

I would first troubleshoot whether this is an electrical issue or a logical (driver/SW issue). When you say it 'stops working', do you mean

- OS cannot see it,
- Cannot get data to/from network,
- etc.

Are there ways that you can try electrically isolating the two units (place one behind a powered USB hub, move the devices away from each other, etc.)?

The symptom is that the WLAN device stops sending and receiving info to the network. The system logs say something like "wlan0 timeout."

I've tried separating the two devices by pluggin one into the back and the other into the front, but with same results. I've cross-posted to the Ubuntu linux forum so we'll see ....
