Ir learning and IR distribution

I have read in another post about the possibility of changing a resistor in the uirt to allow higher line signals.
I am currently using the uirt with a 3 zone setup. The external jack is split into two feeds with one going to an Ir distribution box the other directly linked to an ir emitter. The question is can I somehow either amplify or make the signal stronger to the ir emitter.I am using the following from Maplin.co.uk CY85G .I would like to use the ( YH70M (code number) which is a high power emitter. Cable run is approx 40 ft. Does reducing the transistor value improve the line signal?

Second question relates to ir codes
I seem to have some problelms with a philips code for a DVD player I use Housebot and I can learn the code but when i try and use it(arrow keys) it works once and then will not work again unless I have another command inbetween ie down arrow will not not work twice in succession the led blinks ok on unit.Any ideas

Yes reducing the resistor value will probably improve the signal.

As far as the Philips IR codes, it sounds like it uses a toggling code. There are two ways to work around this:

1. If possible, insert a 'benign' code between each transmission.

2. If that does not work, the USB-UIRT can automatically toggle between two codes, but it will require manually editing the IR codes housebot has stored. If you can find where these codes are stored, email support@usbuirt.com for more details.
