How to learn commands to firefly remote? W/o girder?

I have a quick question. I have Beyond TV and I am using the Firefly remote to control my HTPC. I was wondering if it was possible to use the Firefly remote to control simple functions such as changing the video input and the powering on and off of the TV itself. I don't currently have girder and hear that it can be a pain to program. Do I need girder to have the USBUIRT "learn" commands? Or is there a way to just use Beyond TV and the Firefly remote. I know you can program the remote to do certain things, I just don't know how of if what I want to do is possible with just the two programs. I did search for ever in the forums looking for an answer but was unable to find anything which leads me to believe I need girder. But if the answer to this question has already been answered somewhere else could you please re-post and send me in the right direction, thank you.

Basically what you need to happen is for certain IR codes coming from the Firefly remote (I assume the Firefly cannot be 'taught' codes for your TV) to be received by the USB-UIRT, into an application waiting to trigger from those codes, and then to send out (transmit) new codes which correspond to your TV's codes. For this you will need some sort of application, either one you write yourself or something general-purpose such as Girder.

Firefly is RF

The Firefly is an RF remote, so it would require something like Girder to receive the command and retransmit it through the USBUIRT
