Can I use the USB-UIRT with NetRemote Designer (not Girder) to simply learn IR codes? I can't seem to get it to work.

- I installed the USB-UIRT (no errors). Driver version 1.3.

- I use the Action Designer for a button element and add an Infrared action type.

- Next in the "Specify IR Action" window, I click on the Learn button.

- Then I point my remote at the USB-UIRT and press the button to be learned.

- The USB-UIRT does nothing. The LED does not flash, the frequency/quality/progress values do nothing. and all I can do is click the Cancel Learn button.

Note, I also tried to use the IR Learning Wizard, but the window partially paints and unless I hit the ESC key, the program will crash.

I'm using NetRemote Designer v1.0.0.19.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am not familiar with Netremote Designer, but I think the problem you're having is with the positioning of your remote during Learn.

When learning, the USB-UIRT uses a short-range sensor and you will need to hold your remote a few inches from the USB-UIRT, aimed directly into the face of the USB-UIRT at a spot just to the left of the red LED.

I rebooted my system and now if I point my remote at the USB-UIRT and press a button the LED on the front flashes. So I know that I'm placing my remote close enough (about 1 to 2 inches away).

Unfortunately when I run NetRemote Designer I still have the same problem. I press the Learn button from the "Specify IR Action" window, then I press my remotes button, but nothing happens (the LED no longer flashes, and nothing is registered in the window).

I still can't use the USB-UIRT to learn IR codes.

Netremote only runs on PDAs. Netremote-Designer is only a tool to create the layouts before you upload them to your PDA. And you can't attach the USB-UIRT to a PDA, so this will not work. The IR-functionality of Netremote is only meant for the built-in IR-transceivers of a typical PDA.

If you want to simply try out, if you can learn, receive and transmit IR codes. you can also try EventGhost. And since it's open-source, it's also free.
