What's the best way to change channels on an IR STB?

I have a Zenith 520 HD Directv STB. I will be using a Girder/USB-UIRT setup on a PC to change channels on the STB. I also will be using Netremote w/ channel icons.
The only way I can think of is to create commands in girder for numbers 0-9 and then create multigroups that combine the appropriate numbers, ie, 202, with a small wait command between each number command to allow for STB registering. Then link each multigroup to the appropriate icon.
Is this the easiest way to accomplish this or is there an easier way?
