I was thinking about using my Irman (serial) as the receiver and the USB-UIRT as the transmitter. Note: do to the configuration of the receive/transmitter placement on the USB-UIRT I can't correctly place the unit to successfully and reliably do both.

Would this work? Any hints/tips?

I don't see why not (I assume you're using Girder). You may want to use a wired emitter on the USB-UIRT if you need more flexibility on the transmit path...
