Consultation before purchasing

I'm thinking of buying the USB-UIRT, but first I need to know it would solve my problem.
I'm using Meedio as a front end to my HTPC and controls it with a Streamzap remote.
I want to use the PVR functionality of Meedio. I have a Hauppauge PVR-150 card (non MCE) that doesn't seem to control my set-top-box with its IR-Blaster.
I want to perform two kind of operations:
1. Schedule recordings in Meedio. I need Meedio to switch the channel of my set-top-box when the recording starts.
2. View live TV through Meedio, so I need that my Streamzap remote would be able to switch channels of my set-top-box.
I was told that if I'll use USB-UIRT it'll solve the problem.
I need to understand how this will work and how I should set it up.
