USB UIRT w/CQC: code learned but only half working

Postby bun » Wed Jul 21, 2004 9:07 pm

I am using the usb uirt in conjunction with CQC. I have managed to learn successfully all of the commands from a couple of devices but one has caused a problem. The device is an arcam dv27 dvd player. The problem button is the power toggle. I can learn it and it will turn the power off without a problem, however, no matter what I do (change repeats, relearn code etc) I cannot for the life of my get UIRT to turn the arcam back on. Yet the power button on the remote for the arcam does it without difficulty (as does the power button on my harmony remote).

I have made Dean aware of this and he suggested posting it here. Any ideas what the problem may be?

There are some thoughts on this:

1. The power button on your remote toggles between an ON code and an OFF code each time it is pressed (I doubt this is the case).

2. You remote toggles a 'parity' bit each time the remote button is pressed. If this is the case, using the normal remotes number or navigation buttons while the dvd player is OFF and *then* trying to have CQC send the ON might tell you if this is the case.

3. The DVD player wants to see the 'ON' code for a longer duration (similar to having to hold the button on the remote for longer). To test this, I believe CQC has a repeat adjustment for IR transmits you can increase and try.

Thanks Jon,

1) Tried this out and indeed it isnt the case

2) I think this was attempted without reasoning why, but knowing what im attempting, I will try again in the morning.

3) repeats dont help. I thought a similar thing but did make attempt to both record consecutive presses as well as get the arcam remote out of sequence, so to speak, but irrlevant, the remote always succeeded but the learned command only achieved power off.

I have other business with my dealer so will see if he can help or whether there are a set of codes from arcam themselves (would these then be importable?)

All the best

bun,

If you'd like, you can email me at support@usbuirt.com and I can send you a little test utility to learn/replay a command which might make trying things simpler (won't require using CQC for testing).

I had a go at that. So using the arcam remote I CAN get it to power up, BUT I can only get it to do it once, so the code will power it up, it can then power it down, but it wont power it up again. Then using the harmony remote, I cant actually do a full learn because holding a button doesnt hold the code on, but I cann accept the burst I get, this will tend to work once or twice then cease in a similar way to that learned with the arcam code. As I mentioned on the CQC forum, I can get the pure RC5 commands if those could be imported somehow..... other than that im not sure what to do

So you're saying that the learned code (learning from the original remote into the LrnHelper app) will work ON/OFF once but no longer?

If this is the case, there *must* be some sort of code rotation going on.

You can easily import the codes into CQC once converted to Pronto format. Just export the device model out to XML, replace the commands, save the file, and import it back in.

Not sure if that will help though if the magic rotation stuff is happening though.

What im saying is that sometimes the code will manage to turn the power on, then off but wont turn it back on again..... so one code manages both power on and off, but only once.....

I'll have a look into the codes and see if that helps me

Thanks

If you want to post the code here for Jon to look at, just export the IR model and grab the Pronto code out of the power command and post it.
