usb-uirt driver and usb mouse problems

Firstly, thanks for the prompt delivery of my usb-uirt.
I have installed it, with the latest drivers and it kind of works, but I have the following problem.
When the uirt is transmitting a signal the usb mouse freezes.
I have noticed this behaviour from within two applications driving the uirt. Firstly in Beyond TV, when it interacts with the uirt to change channels. This I can live with if i have to.
The second, and more serious problem, is when the girder plugin is installed, and girder input devices are active. Then the mouse freezes totally until the girder input devices are switched off.
The ATI remote however still works. I dont have a corded keyboard and mouse to try plugging in, but i would almost certainley say that it would work just fine.

I have tried to plug the uirt, and the mouse into seperate usb controllers ( two on my motherboard) to no avail.

Yes it is a wireless mouse, but i just checked, and it isnt a usb one. it plugs into the keyboard and mouse port.

I tracked down an old mouse with a tail, and plugged that in instead of the wireless one, and it works just fine.
I still need to get this working with the wireless mouse though. My htpc cant have rat tails running over the lounge floor
I also tried another wireless mouse/keyboard from a different manufacture, it has the same symptoms.
Any chance that the guts of the uirt are generating RF and causing interference ( not likely methinks, but i have seen stranger things happen in the electronics world).

I would suspect RF interference. Not sure why, though.

Some things to try:

1. See what physically moving the USB-UIRT and the RF receiver (for the mouse) apart does...

2. If you have an RF choke handy (the kind that clips onto phone cords, etc.) you can clip it to the USB cable.

Hi Jon

Found an RF choke at the bottom of my electronics box, and put it on.
The result is amazing, choke on=mouse works. Choke off= mouse fails. So your UIRT is behaving like a little wireless rat jammer.
Interestingly, with the choke on the usb cable, if i plug in an external ir transmitter, its cable also acts like an aerial. To make the mouse work again, i have to put a choke on both.

Can you look on your wireless mouse and see if it has labeled what RF frequency it is using? I need to look into this!

I cant find anything on the mouse equipment. I can tell you that i swopped it for another , more expensive one, and it still suffers. So they must all use a similar RF band, well at least those two do.

I believe the FCC list the operating frequency of device
registered with them on their web site...

No, but I have plans to purchase a wireless mouse (looking for some model that operates at 27MHz) to see if I can duplicate.

I looked briefly on a Spec. Analyzer to see if anything out of the ordinary was there, but didn't find anything. The internal frequencies of the USB-UIRT are 6 and 10MHz, so there are no obvious harmonics. I am wondering if there is some sort of beat frequency...

P.S. What I find odd is that the problem doesn't occur until the USB-UIRT is being accessed by the PC. This is odd because the USB-UIRT otherwise still operates even if no app is using it (its clocks continue to run)...
