Is it possible to record and playback IR signals later?

Postby Guest » Tue Mar 29, 2005 3:33 am

I am using the USB-UIRT + Girder to control my PC, etc. with my Home Theater Master MX-500 IR remote. This remote has the ability to clone itself to another MX-500 remote. So I was thinking it'd be great to record all the IR signals sent out during a clone request and save that. If those signals could then be sent back on request this would make a great way to back-up the MX-500. Having spent so much time setting the remote up, I'd hate to have to re-do it.

Is this possible with the USB-UIRT and some plug-in I don't know about? Seems that having the ability to "see" the IR signals and to send-out IR signals would be the hard part (and obviously the part already covered by owning the USB-UIRT). Thanks.

This is theoretically possible, but would require a special firmware update to the USB-UIRT for this purpose. I have seen a product that is solely intended to store the output of an MX-500 clone command (cannot remember the name of the product), and sometime back had considered if there was enough interest to invest time/effort in such a cause...

I checked the web site for the product you are thinking of. It is called IRCLONE (this did more than just allow backing up though). Anyway, it looks like it is no longer available though (www.irclone.com). There is some talk at http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mb ... d.cgi?6512 about getting the software to be released to the public. I was just hoping that with the ability to send and receive IR signals, the USB-UIRT with a little help from software could step in and perform this function.
