USBUIRT listening but not talking

Postby Mark » Mon Jan 12, 2004 4:35 pm

I have the USBUIRT plugged into a mini-ITX with the Hauppauge 350. I'm ttring to get it to run with an Expressvu 3100

I tried the actisys and couldn't get it to run, so I bought the USBUIRT. I've followed the instructions and I can add/edit a device and it seems to learn. I.E. I can make a key and when I press the remote within 5" of the USBUIRT it flashes and the menu shows the key capture.

However no matter what I do in test or anywhere else, the light never flashes when it is supposed to be sending and the satellite receiver does not react. I have the USBUIRT with the additional 56K electronics.

Is there something obvious I have forgotten? I had the actisys installed and then I used the unistall to delete the drivers. That seems to work. Where in the device list should I see the USBUIRT? It doesn't seem to show there, despite the fact that the training part of the Sage recoder does react to the training. It just can't seem to transmit.

Mark,

For some reasone, some are experiencing issues getting the Sage learn functionality to work. Since little to no feedback is given during this process, it is difficult to get things 'right'.

The easiest thing to do is simply use an existing .ir file which is already set up for your equipment. I have posted a couple files at the frey forum which should work for most Dish/Evu receivers. Please give this a try first.

Amazingly enough that seems to have done the trick! :D
It does seem th put in the numbers very slowly; I guess I will just tweak the delays unitl it is a little quicker. Thanks for the support!

Yes, the dish file I made up has very generous timing because my Dish receiver responds very slowly to IR.

I, too, was having trouble getting Sage to learn and/or control my Dish box. Jon's IR file works well (Thanks). I was wondering, though, what I was doing wrong and what goes into making such a file. Can you shed some light?

Thanks again for the excellent support.

Most likely the problem you were having was related to the fact that Sage's default timing for IR is too 'fast' for most Dish boxes. You can override this 'repeatCount' setting by adding a line into the IR file, but newer releases of Sage will increase the default which should be better all around.

Thanks, Jon. By "newer releases of Sage" do you mean that there is an update available or that one will be available soon? I received Sage just 3 weeks ago.

It is a request I have made to Sage authors which they will put in later releases (as of a few weeks ago). When it actually makes it into a real release...I don't know
