MCE 2005 doesn't see USB-UIRT

Postby lucaz79 » Fri Nov 26, 2004 5:19 am

Hello, I'm hoping someone here can help me with this. I recently bought some hardware to build a Media Center 2005 machine. I installed MCE, and my USB-UIRT, when I run through the TV setup it finds my Hauppauge winTV tuner just fine but after telling MCE that I have a set top box it scans for IR hardware to control the set top box (satelite receiver) and says "No IR hardware detected" my USB-UIRT is listed in device manager and was sure I could use it to control my set top box, am I wrong? Is there something else i need to do, maybe some software I am missing?

Lucaz,

Unfortunately, the USB-UIRT is not supported by MCE.

MCE is currently designed to work *only* with Microsoft's own MCE Remote (which is built by Philips), and nothing else.

Thx for the quick response Jon. Well I have the MS MCE 2005 remote and IR receiver to control Media Center I was trying to use the USB-UIRT as the IR blaster to change channels on my set top box only. That's not supported either? If not can anyone tell me what I should get to do this and where to get it? Thanx!

The IR receiver for the MS remote has two RCA jacks on the back. The remote should also have included a cable with an RCA plug and an IR emitter. Plug that into jack 1 on the back of the MCE collector, fasten the emitter end to the IR receiver and then run through setup again. It works very well.

Woa! You are saying that you're controlling MCE using the MCE remote and having it change channels on your STB by pointnig the MCE blaster at the USBUIRT receiver and the USBUIRT blaster at the STB?

I ask because I just ordered USBUIRT, I have MCE 2005 + remote + STB that it doesnt seem to control, and I want to do the same.

If this is indeed what you are doing then
1. How does USBUIRT know your STB to start with. Do you have to train it separately first.
2. In that case what do you point at your MCE receiver when MCE setup asks you to point your STB remote at it and hit 0, then channel up?

and one more thing:
does all this work without girder or do I need that too?

bump.
My USBUIRT is due to arrive in a few days, and I'd really like to know if I can set it up with MCE

rhubarb,

I believe he was talking about the MCE remote and receiver. At present, the USB-UIRT does not integrate with MCE.

Hello, I hope that you guys are ready for a laugh....

I have just got a Microsoft remote RC6 kit and I am pleased with it, however my unit is an OEM part with no instructions, how and why do I use the two little blaster thingies?

Thank you for any help you can offer (once the laughter dies down)
