Usb-Uirt feature...

Hello, all!

I'm considering getting FireFly and USB-UIRT but would like to know something about a feature of USB-UIRT.

I notice on the product description it says USB-UIRT has an 1/8" connector (mini-plug) on the back for IR transmission. My digital cable receiver (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3100) has a mini-plug connector on the back entitled "IR".

I'd like to know if I bought a male-to-male mini-plug patch cable and connected the back of USB-UIRT and my cable box via the patch cable, would it send the IR transmission through the cable instead of the regular emitter to avoid having to line up USB-UIRT's blaster with the cable box's sensor? Or is this not possible?

Sorry, but I do not believe so. Typically the 'IR' jack on a set-top box is for connecting an IR emitter, as some set top boxes can control a VCR to perform unattended program recording.

Appreciate the information. I guess I'll go with one of those stick-to-the-sensor-emitters.

One thing that gets me though, I noticed that there are some single emitters that are labeled "high output" and "low output". All I need is one good quality durable emitter to control my cable box and nothing else. Do I go with the high or low output emitter to use in conjunction with USB-UIRT? Thanks again!

It probably doesn't matter if you're sticking it to the front of your cable box.
