Echostar 2700/2800

Postby DanP » Sun Dec 12, 2004 8:54 pm

Does anyone have any experience with SageTV, Echostar 2700 or 2800 receiver and USB-UIRT?

My problem is with Sage tuning channels on the STB. I have seen other posts here that do not seem to be exactly what I am seeing.

I can enter 123 on my Echostar remote, for example, very quickly and a moment later, all numbers appear on the Echostar OSD and the channel changes to 123. This works for all 1, 2, 3 or 4 digit channels. In fact, it seems like entering the numbers on the remote quickly works better than slowly.

When I change a channel in Sage, the UIRT transmits the codes, but not all make it to the Echostar OSD. This causes the "change channel" request to revert to ch 2. I see the UIRT flash 3 times, or 4 when I have tried that setting. I have adjusted the time between digits and tested at 50, 100, 150 - all the way up to 1000. Same result regardless.

I followed one posting's suggestion to retrain the UIRT with my Echostar remote. It helped to hold the remote an inch from the UIRT. It looked like the programming worked.

I have tried remapping the channels in Sage. Channel 9 as "9", "09", "009", etc. In all cases, the UIRT sent codes and the Echostar OSD showed "00" and then reverted to channel 2.

I suspect that the UIRT just is not sending the right numbers consistantly.

Any advice?

TIA,
Dan

DanP,

Some version of the Sage software set the 'repeat' count too low on codes being sent to the Dish receiver. The repeat setting equates to how 'long' a button is held on the remote.

There are two things you can try:

1. Edit the .IR file and adjust the repeat count, or
2. Use a pre-defined Dish IR file (and Dish Network receiver file should work) which already has a higher repeat count setting.

If you want to edit your file, its simple:

1. Find the .IR file you're using (usually in the Sage program folder in a 'Remote Codes' subfolder).
2. Edit the file with a text editor, and you'll see something like this:

Dish6000USBUIRT 56000 411 3 600 1000
1 0000 0048 0001 0011 0017 0163 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 0163
2 0000 0048 0001 0011 0017 0163 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 0163
...
...
...

Add a line just after the first line with reads:

RepeatCount 5

So now the file looks like this:

Dish6000USBUIRT 56000 411 3 600 1000
RepeatCount 5
1 0000 0048 0001 0011 0017 0163 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 0163
2 0000 0048 0001 0011 0017 0163 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 0163
...
...
...

The restart Sage and give it a try.
