Dish 522/Sage TV

Postby TerryA » Sat Apr 09, 2005 7:53 pm

one of the following will happen:

** the 522 goes into sleep mode and won't wake up
so I get a screen saver for a recording.

** I disable the update or trick the update on the 522 by
messing with the time settings - results in error 013 - "This is a subscription channel which has not boon purchased. To purchase...."

I watch it enter the channels on the recording, and it's entering them right and we're talking about CBS, Sci-Fi Channel..etc. channels I'm allowed to go to.

HEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLP!!!

Dish 522/Sage TV

Hey Jrhees.

First, let me say that I love your USB-UIRT. The unit itself seems to work exactly as it's supposed to.

Let me see if I can explain better.

I have a DVR 522 from Dish Network. I have a USB-UIRT with SAGEtv.

The DVR 522 has to clean house daily. It shuts down at a specific time every day to check for software updates and to run a defrag and check disk on the internal hard drive.

I can easily time my recordings around this irritant but only if it's late at night because it takes about 30 minutes and I record alot. Anyway, when it finishes with it's update, it leaves itself in a sort of sleep mode. A screen saver stays on. The only way to turn off the screen saver and return to regular viewing is to hit the "Select" button on the remote.

I just found out that this second issue is not related to the first - Sometimes it appears that the USB-UIRT will be recognized as a foreign control and gives me an error stating that I am trying to tune into a channel that I haven't paid for. Which I have - Channels like CBS, NBC, ABC, UPN, SCI-FI, and so on. the only way it will let me out of this loop is to have it connected to an actual TV and have the TV on when changing the channel with the Dish Network remote. And, the only buttons you can use to get away from this screen are "channel Up/Down" or "RECALL"

While I am writing this, a few minutes ago, I pulled up SageTV and it was in this goofy mode. I actually had to turn the DVR off and back on to let me change the channel. I see the channel numbers being entered correctly on the recording so it's not the USB/UIRT or the Computer. It's the lousy 522.

I called Dish Network tech support and they didn't have an answer. I told them that I was using an Universal remote control. They gave me the runaround.

If no one knows how to fix the problem that I'm facing, I think I may need to just get a regular Satelite box - a 301 or something.

Well, one (ugly) workaround I can think of is to find a button on your Dish remote which exits the screen saver and them use an automation program like Girder to periodically send this or something via the USb-UIRT...
