Hi Jon -
I went out and bought a self-powered usb hub today. It looks like all self-powered usb hubs also have the capability to draw power from the usb port under 500ma and then use the external power supply if over that. I'm not sure if there is a way to ensure that this hub is drawing its power from the external supply rather than the usb port. If there is a way please let me know. As it is now this doesn't seem to have made any difference.

Thanks,

Pat

The powered hubs I have seen usually have a small switch or something on them...

Hi Jon -
I went out and bought another powered USB hub. This one has an indicator that shows whether it is using external power or bus power. I hooked up the USB-UIRT to the hub and confirmed it was on external power. Still has the same problem. In reviewing ih8gates posts it looks like that solution didn't work for him either. Any idea if his/her problem got solved?

I have confirmed that under every circumstance when I unload the USB-UIRT plugin from Girder that everything works just fine. As a check I enabled and hooked up my onboard audio (analog out) and with the USB-UIRT plugin enabled everything works fine. The common denominator in this equation seems to be Girder, Envy24 sound card and USB-UIRT.

I can't bear to give up any of the three so any ideas would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Pat

Was this the analog out of the Envy24?

Hi Jon -
I'm using SPDIF out (optical) on the Envy 24 and analog out on the onboard audio

Does the Envy24 have analog out to try?

Hi Jon -
I've been doing some testing since my last post. It looks to me like it is an issue with SPDIF and USB-UIRT. I swapped out my Envy-chip based card for a Philips card that I have with SPDIF Out. Same problem. I also tried both while keeping the USB-UIRT plugged into an external USB hub. Still same problem. Everything seems to work fine with analog out on both cards (including my onboard audio)

Any chance that this could be an issue with the Girder app? I'm not using the most recent (I think its 3.3). The other app that is in use when the problem occurs is Zoom Player just in case that is somehow relevant.

I'll be happy to do any testing that you can think of to narrow down this problem. The other thought I've had as a temporary solution would be to somehow unload the USB-UIRT plugin from Girder whenever I start Zoom Player as I don't really have to have it in use then. Although this is far from ideal it would be better than what I have now. Is this possible?

Thanks for all your help.

The fact that SPDIF crackles while analog sounds ok makes me suspect some sort of electrical issue which is causing bit errors on the digital SPDIF connection to your receiver. Are you using Coax or Toslink?

Jon -
One of my cards has coax and one has Toslink. My problem is far greater than an audio popping. It is more like the audio doesn't start at the beginning of the movie, then studders through the first 20-30 seconds, then might drop out again for another few seconds, then stabilizes and works ok. If I FF, REW or Pause the problem starts again. I also notice that there are long delays in response from Zoom Player when trying to FF, REW or Pause.

Hope that helps some.
