lrnhelper.exe And HS Plugin

Postby Skybolt » Thu Sep 22, 2005 7:17 pm

Hi Jon - I tried to use the lrnhelper but it either locks up it self or HS. I am running this on W2k3 Server. If the app does work at all the inject feature will lock up the sytem. I am trying to copy Pronto codes into a HS system. I do not have the original remote.

USB-Uirt
Firmware Ver 5.9
Prot Ver 1.1
Firmware Date 3/26/2004

Thanks,

Hmmm -- are you running HS2 or HS1.x? I wonder if this has to do with W2K server?

Are yo starting lrnHelper first or HS?

Sorry - HS 1.7.44 and Win 2003 server. The ML plugin works fine and so does the HS plugin. It's only the IR learn helper which does not function correctly. Usally need to reboot to fix. I am using a lot of com obj. on this server which I have no problem with. I can get the irlhelper to work but it takes alot of rebooting and app crashing to work. I spent over an hr. this am getting 2 codes injected in to HS. I am exiting all software possable before running app. The app doese not lock up until it tries to access the learn function. If I start the HS learn functrion and then start the Irlhelp app the inject button is present somtimes. somtimes not. Also I am using pronto codes.

Don't laugh to hard but my 6 month old teething blk lab decided to turn my pronto pro into a bone.... So that is why I don't just use the remote to teach HS the codes....

Skybolt,

One last question -- does lrnHelper work without crashing if it is run by itself (i.e., HS and ML are completely shut down)?

Thanks,

Jon

Yeah np problem. It is only when then learn features are used and it is one of the two app which will crash. I also tried it withthe MainLobby Plugin and that froze as well. I'll step out on a limb here and say it's only when the driver functions are accessed. Just a guess though haven't played withthe SDK yet.

UPDATE:

I disabled all plugin's and interfaces with in HS except the IR support. rebooted the box and shut down all un-nessecary software. Then started HS and the Helper Util. Got it to work every time. This is weird because I use the UIRT all of the Time shared between Mainlobby and HS for my theater and house audio control. Don't know why the helper would be any differant?

So are you saying that when it was crashing both HS and ML were both active? If so, this could be an issue with lrnHelper running while more than one other app is running.

The USB-UIRT API allows multiple apps to share, as you already know, but lrnHelper does some unusual tricks to 'wedge' itself in such a way as to be able to inject codes.

defenitly not.

So you use a public call to the "Ir Learn" function so that other apps, like helper can emulate the hardware read section of the code. -Just a guess.

That still doesn't explain why the confilct, but it does work. I am glad it was available, other wise I would have not been able to acomplish what I needed to. Thanks.
