DirecTv Remote and Volume Control

Hello - I've tried to send codes with both the Sage TV program and the HIP program and for some reason the Volume Up and Volume Down on my DirecTv remote control (all of my DirecTv remotes) sends the same code (volume down) and I can't figure out why the Volume Up does not send a separate code.

Are you trying to learn the 12-digit code for vol up/down (to use your remote's volume buttons to trigger an action on the PC), or, are you trying to learn and *transmit* the volume commands?

Jon - thank you for your reply. I'm not quite sure of the different between the two questions you asked me. But, I'm almost positive I'm trying to do: "learn the 12-digit code for vol up/down (to use your remote's volume buttons to trigger an action on the PC)" but you also mentioned this and I don't quite see the difference: "or, are you trying to learn and *transmit* the volume commands?"

It sounds like you are asking me the same question but I'll elaborate. I'm trying to get either Sage or the HIP program to LEARN the VolUp and VolDn codes. But, when I press the VolUp on the DirecTv remote it's like the USB-UIRT sends the PC a code to learn for the application but it is sending the same code to learn the VolDn and I'm banging my head against the wall trying to figure out why it is sending the same code to LEARN. Obviously, it's not going to work because when I tell it to learn the codes then if I press Vol up or Vol Dn it just turns the volume down on both commands.

Now - here is something interesting..The channel up and channel down commands do transmit different codes (when programming either Sage or HIP to learn the commands) BUT if I move the slider over on the DirecTV (DTV) remote from say TV to AV1 or AV2 (kind of like TV, VCR, DVD, etc...) then it transmits different codes for MANY of the buttons which is just great because I won't run out of buttons to program. But, strangely enough the Channel Up and Channel Down also transmit the same codes (when learning) when the slider is on a certain setting (can't remember which AV1, AV2 or TV).

In other words - when I use Sage or HIP to learn the buttons for my DirecTv remote control, both programs seem to think I'm pressing the same button when I press either Vol Up or Vol Dn. It thinks I'm pressing the same button when I'm trying to get the applications to learn what all the buttons do. So, the SageTV app (in simplistic terms) says Press the Vol Up button and I press it and I see the IR Code. It then says Press the Vol Dn button and I see the IR code but the codes are identical.

Please Help Me - this is driving me nuts.

Finally I got it all figured out. I called DirecTv support and together we programmed the remote to set VolUp and VolDn to a TV and everything worked just great. The problem was the VolUp VolDn was never pre-programmed to accept any TV. Once I programmed it the codes worked just fine. What a relief.
