Learning X10 IR Codes

Postby Guest » Wed Oct 22, 2003 1:00 pm

Just recently purchased the USB-UIRT and extremely happy with it. Installation and learning have gone smoothly with the exception of X10 IR codes. I have used both an X10 remote in IR mode and a Universal MX-500 remote but have not had any luck with either. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so were you able to come up with any work arounds?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Guest,

I have an X-10 IR/RF remote handy -- can you some specific buttons to look at? How do you tell the X-10 remote to send X-10 commands out in IR (or do they always come out both RF *and* IR?

Thanks,

Jon

Jon,

Thanks for your quick response. Sorry, I wasn't logged in when I sent first message. The remote only send IR or RF. It uses a device code to determine which to send. When I select the X10 device it sends out RF and I have programmed the AUX with the IR code. To turn on an X10 module, you select the number and then hit the Channel Up button. For off, number then Channel Down. Not sure what remote you have but the device codes for mine are 999 for RF, 998 for IR. Can provide additional details if you need.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

The remote I have is their 'Super Remote' model UR19a. After looking up the manual at ftp://ftp.x10.com/pub/manuals/ur19a_om.pdf I found that I had to either choose IR or RF for the X-10 stuff (device code 14 for IR). Once I selected IR I was able to Learn codes into Girder. I don't have an IR receiver, though, so I can't test transmit.

Can you give me more of a description of what is not working for you. --Are you able to Learn but the codes don't work, etc.?

Jon,

I was using a different model but had a UR19A here as well. Set that up for IR and was able to learn codes through Girder (took longer than with commands for my TV) but the codes are not working when testing. The commands for other devices are esily learned and working. The code learned for a Channel Up command was:

004B15534A7E4A1761303F1300000000000000000000000000

Not sure if this helps but you can at least see if it matches your results.

Thanks,

Mark

althea5266 --

Will you try learning the code and then before hitting 'Test' turn the 'repeat' value up to about 10 and see if that has any effect?

Thanks,

Jon,

Tried out your suggestion but still no luck getting the learned code to work. Can you suggest anything else to try?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

Can you tell me what IR *receiver* you're trying to send to?

Thanks,

Mark,

OH! I just thought of something else you definitely *SHOULD* try:

Try re-learning the remote code but after hitting the Learn button, CHECK the 'Force Raw Learn' checkbox and then learn the code. Then try testing the code with repeat of 10, etc. etc.

Jon,

The 'Force Raw Learn' box did the trick, even with the Repeat set at 4. One more quick question if I can. How do I use the Code 1, Code 2 boxes when learning codes? Always seems to fill the Code 1 area even if I move the cursor to the Code 2 box.

Thanks for all your help and the support you provide.

Don't worry about the Code1 and Code2 boxes. These are the USB-UIRT-specific codes which are stored in the Girder .GML file. Some remote control protocols send two different codes (a single code followed by a different repeat code), and in those cases 'Code2' will hold the unique repeated code.

FYI - the next release of the USB-UIRT Girder plugin is going to enable 'Force Raw...' by default.

x10

Postby AirPost » Fri Mar 19, 2004 5:11 am

Hello,

Can anyone please help me with my x10 remote. I have a UR74A 5-in-one remote from X10 and it controls my x10 modules fine. What I want is to have girder learn the x10 commands through USB-UIRT. Everytime I learn the commands, there is no command being received by the USB-UIRT. I'm pretty sure this remote sends out IR commands so girder and USB-UIRT should receive the commands fine but it doesn't see it. Tried the RAW mode but still no luck.

Do you get *any* flashing of the LED when you try to learn?

I know that the X10 remote I have has a special button sequence I had to do to turn on the IR mode (which turned OFF the RF mode).
