Snapstream newbie - learning codes

Postby banswara » Wed Oct 22, 2003 11:09 pm

Like another poster I saw on the forum, I am a recent purchaser/installer of USBUIRT which Snapstream claims to support.

I am having difficulty using their software directly to 'learn' my Bell Expressvu Satellite receiver. The remote control that I am using is marked with the Dish logo, I am unable to determine who makes the actual satellite receiver.

I was able to get the UIRT/Snapstream to 'learn' once, but clearly not correctly. My experience went as follows:

Press 1 and hold - it took a long time for anything to happen, but eventually it told me to release and press 2 and hold it. At this time it seemed to pick up and 'learn' each of the numbers before I even pressed the button, and then when it got to the 'Enter' key it wouldn't learn it at all.

I reset, and tried again. This time I got through all of the numbers and the enter key, with the same rapid 'self learning' of many of the numbers.

Testing the setup, it was evident that only the 1 was being sent to my Sat box.

I'm prepared to help you debug this setup in any way that I can. I'm determined to get it working...
On a clear day you can see for ever.

banswara,

I am in the process of getting Snapstream set up so that I can get familiar with the implementation they've done. Hopefully I can help you out then.

I have a simple 'test' app that you can try to verify learn functionality, etc. if you'd like (doesn't require you to set up and figure out Girder). If you want to try it, email me at uirtsupport@earthlink.net

banswara,

OK, I think I know what you're seeing. I have a Dish receiver and I think that I've duplicated a problem.

So, here's plan A (try this first):

Go through the Setup Wizard and get to the Train screen. Press the 'Train' button. Hold the remote approximately 2-3 inches from the USB-UIRT IR Window and HOLD the '1' button for TWO-THREE seconds. Then RELEASE the button. When the button is RELEASED, you'll see the '1' get checked on the screen and the dialog will say 'Release your button...'. Wait 2-3 MORE seconds for the dialog to change to 'Press the 2 button...' and repeat with the '2' the same procedure, etc.

The key to success is to

a) hold the button for 2-3 seconds and then release it (the SS software will currently wait forever until you release the button), and

b) you MUST avoid pressing the next button UNTIL the SS wizard asks you to. If you press the button before it says to, things get all hosed up and you then need to press the "reset" button and start over.

I will look into changing the driver's behavior to see if I can clean this up.

Plan B: If the above doesn't work, contact uirtsupport@earthlink.net and I can try sending you the IRTuner file which SS created that holds the learned codes.

Another note: when learned, I had to UN-CHECK 'Use Enter Key' and had to CHECK 'Pad' and set the pad value to 3.

Dish codes?

Postby KenH » Mon Oct 04, 2004 10:33 pm

Jon, Did I see that You now have a Dish dish and BeyondTV3 your getting setup? You would absolutely make my day if I could get a copy of the codes to use for the UIRT!

Dish / ExpressVu Codes

Postby Panda » Sun Oct 31, 2004 1:37 am

Hi All,

I just got my Uirt today and it works great with BeyondTv 3.5! Total time installing was less than 10 minutes (some luck involved I'll admit) I've got a expressvu 2700 and when I went thru the BTV wizard I couldn't find my remote. Knowing that the dish and express vu hardware are the same I said it was a dish 2500 and everything was fine. Rather than the hassle of learning codes I suggest people try this, YMMV

Good Luck.
